2011 TFRW Legislative Day Album
Look at those Ladies in Red!
If you missed this year’s Legislative Day, you definitely missed a most enjoyable and memorable outing!
The bus rolled out of the parking lot promptly at 6 a.m. When we arrived in Austin and made our way to the House Gallery.
Representative Linda Harper-Brown graciously invited the ladies to her office and served snacks.
Attorney General Abbott spoke to us on his role in protecting Texas from onerous federal over-reaching. The crowd loved him.
Texas Representative Dan Branch was next. He is chair for Higher Education. He gave us a heads up on his role in the education system. All this took place in a reserved room off the Senate Gallery.
We thought that Lt. Governor Dewhurst was going to come to us. What a great surprise when a member of his staff came to our room and told us that the Lt. Governor wanted us to join him for refreshments in his Great Room. The artwork, furnishings, accessories were all lovely. He described his role in the Senate and how bills come to the floor for a vote and/or how they die in committee.
Our next stop was a visit to Representative Will Hartnett’s office. His office has a spectacular terrace that is something out of a movie set. He is on the fourth floor with a view of the Capitol looking north. The hospitality was unbelievable!
We made our way back to our reserved room where we had the pleasure of visiting with Senator Florence Shapiro. She is chair of the Senate Education Committee and committed to overhauling the state’s school finance system.
We enjoyed Senator John Carona’s hospitality on the bus ride home. We had a variety of deli sandwiches to choose from and a French table wine for our return home. He also included Governor Rick Perry’s book, Fed Up, as a gift.
The warmth and generosity that greeted us by our elected officials was truly over the top. It was a day that none of us will ever forget. Excerpted from an article by Janet Clesi
